PES-Kalatungan was initiated in 2014. It is a multi-stakeholder initiative to reforest critical sub-watersheds of the Cagayan de Oro river basin. PES-Kalatungan provides monetary incentives to an indigenous community that helps conserve the environment the provides the services we need and enjoy.
PES-Kalatungan is in partnership with the Indigenous Peoples Organization, the Miarayon, Lapok, Lirongan, Tinaytayan Talaandig Tribal Association (MILALITTRA) from Talakag Bukidnon. MILALITTRA holds a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT). It has allotted more than 1,600 hectares for rainforestation. MILALITTRA sells ecosystem services such as water, clean air, food supply, urban safety and beautiful landscapes by growing and maintaining native tree species in the forests of Mt. Kalatungan.
Corporations, socio-civic organizations, businesses, government offices and the whole community are urged to invest in the ecosystem services. XSF acts as the intermediary that brings all of us to work together.
The buyer’s support goes to mapping, land preparation, seedling maintenance, geo-tagging, monitoring, and IP capacity building among others.
