On September 13, 2025, Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. (XSF) celebrated its 57th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Legacy of Change” at the Xavier University Old Library. The celebration was both a tribute to the past and a commitment to the future, highlighting the foundation’s enduring mission of empowering communities, uplifting children and Indigenous peoples, and protecting the environment.
A key highlight of the anniversary was the launching of the “Sowing New Seeds”, a local sponsorship Initiative that aims to support the education and well-being of children in one of its partner communities in the hinterlands of Cagayan de Oro City. This initiative reflects XSF’s continuing commitment to sow new seeds of hope, growth, and opportunity for future generations.
The afternoon program was opened by Mr. Roel Ravanera, XSF Executive Director, who warmly welcomed the guests and shared the essence of the celebration. In his message, he gave context on the current situation of Filipino learners, citing national statistics to shed light on the urgent challenges children are facing in education today. This provided the foundation for the official launching of the local sponsorship initiative.
Following this, Ms. Sheila de Lima, Program Manager, presented an overview of the initiative, emphasizing its long-term impact. During the launch, Mr. Alexander Bargamento Jr. and Mr. Jayson Yanez, once sponsored children themselves, were invited to share their personal journeys. They spoke about how XSF’s support and sponsorship opened doors of opportunity, enabling them to pursue their dreams and become who they are today. Their testimonies deeply moved the audience, showing the tangible impact of sponsorship in transforming lives.
Guests were then encouraged to share their sentiments and commitments to XSF’s mission. The event culminated in a ceremonial signing of commitment, symbolizing the collective support of partners and stakeholders in ensuring the success of the initiative.
The event was followed by a mass, offering prayers of gratitude for 57 years of meaningful work and blessings for the journey ahead.
In the evening, the XSF staff gathered for a simple but meaningful celebration. Staff members came together to share stories and reflections on their journey with the organization. The night also became an opportunity to recognize and honor employees who have served the foundation for five years and beyond, acknowledging their dedication and invaluable contributions to XSF’s mission.
The 57th anniversary was not just a commemoration of years passed, but a celebration of the values, people, and milestones that shaped XSF into what it is today. It served as a reminder that change is not only inevitable but essential, and that XSF’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide the work of building a more just, sustainable, and thriving future.
