The project Enhancement of Community Capacity for Sustainable Ecological Protection and Economic Development (ECOSEED) – Phase 2 conducted an ICT and Communication training, emphasizing on effective communication and social media management. The ECOSEED-2 project is implemented by Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. in partnership with Forest Foundation Philippines.
The training consisted of a 1-day program but was conducted for 2 days to cater all IPOs, in accordance with the mandated minimum health protocols. The first day was attended by 18 participants from the Valencia IPOs (BLUPENTTRAS, MANTALA, and TUMINDOK), held at the Tribal Hall of Tumindok on January 27, 2022. The second day was attended by 15 participants from the Pangantucan IPOs (CALUDA, NAMAMAYUK, and PTTA), held at the M&G Hotel on January 28, 2022.
The training aimed to capacitate the partner IPOs with effective communication, and social media management skills. Despite the limited time, the training was jam packed with insightful modules enough to introduce them to the topics and help them enhance their communication skills in introducing whether their organization or their products. In total, there were 34 participants from the IPOs with a mix of both youth and women.
The training had two sessions, the first session focused on effective communication with topics on ICT introduction, Communication Models, and the C’s of Effective Communication. To assess the learning, the participants were given a scenario where a person would reach out to them and ask about their products and they’re tasked to reply.
The second session focused on communication and social media with topics on Social Media Management introduction, Social Media platforms, Branding, Elements of Design, and the resources they may use for their communication materials. It also included topics on safe and proper social media usage which included topics on Fake News and Online Sexual Exploitation of Childen (OSEC). At the end of the session, the participants were tasked to create their own Communication Material, a poster, promoting either their community or their product/s.
“Thank you kaayo kay naa gyud mo always nga ga guide ug natagaan pud ug chance ang mga kabatan-onan nga makaapil ani nga training kay dako mi ug kulang ani nga kahibalo labina sa fake news aron di nami ma mabiktima. About sa pag layout, natagaan mig chance nga maipakita among art.” – Ara, Youth, MANTALA
The Training Module was crafted to cater to the needs of the IPOs regarding communication and social media management tasks for the development of their members and the entire community.#
